Conroy, Anthony Joseph 84 06/15/1925-02/07/2010 A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, in St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 7007 S.W. 40th Ave., Portland, for Anthony Joseph Conroy, who died at age 84.

Joe Conroy was born June 15, 1925, in The Dalles and grew up on a ranch outside of Shaniko.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as a B-17 ball turret gunner - completing 35 missions.

Joe earned bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Oregon.

He was a personnel manager for General Foods Corp. in Woodburn until retirement in 1987. Joe was vice-president of Conroy Packing Co., which he co-founded with his brother Bob in 1955.

Joe belonged to the U.S. Air Force Reserve and retired in 1985 as a lieutenant colonel. He remained active in Air Force life by serving as the president of the national 306th Bomb Group and the Oregon Chapter of the 8th Air Force Historical Society. He enjoyed the meetings and looked forward to attending annual conventions around the country.

He belonged to St. John Fisher parish and served as treasurer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Joe married Patricia Bocek in 1951. She survives along with his daughters, Marianne of Lake Oswego and Christine of Roseburg; sons, Michael and Paul of Portland; sister, Patricia Halford of Mt. Angel; and four grandchildren, Dan, Liz, Kate and Ben. His son, John Patrick, died in 1997.

Interment will be in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Riverview Abbey Funeral Home. Remembrances may be sent to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. John Fisher parish or to St. Francis Dining Hall.
